Preservation Rhinoplasty Basics
Preservation rhinoplasty is one approach to nose surgery, and asking about it well starts with a few basics.
Case counts behind a preservation approach
Ask the surgeon what the approach is meant to preserve in your nose and why that suits you. Ask how many such operations they have done and how they follow patients afterward. The answers tell you how much experience sits behind the approach.
Compare it on the same terms
Get the same risk figures, with their sample and follow-up, for every approach the surgeon offers. That lets you compare the preservation approach on equal terms.
What raises or lowers individual risk
Ask how your own habits and history affect your risk, including smoking, medicines, earlier nose surgery and healing problems. A medical archive hosts a paper titled evaluating the safety of rhinoplasty in smokers, which shows the type of risk-factor question worth asking. Read its sample description before you rely on any of its figures.
A pre-booking checklist for any nose surgery
A plastic surgery society lists six things to know before booking a rhinoplasty. It is a checklist-style source and covers rhinoplasty in general, not only preservation approaches.
Cross-check procedures that sound similar
Do not take numbers from a different procedure. A plastic surgery society has pages on rhinoplasty preparation and rhinoplasty recovery. They cover rhinoplasty in general, so check with your surgeon how any figure applies to preservation rhinoplasty.
When a preservation plan is ready to choose
Choose a preservation approach only when the surgeon can explain why it fits your nose and can give you their complication numbers with the sample and follow-up behind them. The Rhinoplasty Guide for Patients links the other approaches.
Read all of this as general information about preservation rhinoplasty, not medical advice.
